There are many books out there concerning an increasingly-wide range of spiritual, metaphysical or parapsychological topics.
As such, for a writer, it becomes ever harder to find a new 'angle', rather than merely follow trends, or what has already been written.
As a former lawyer in his native Australia, Victor Zammit's idea is certainly novel - to approach the field of parapsychology and spirituality through a eyes of a lawyer; presenting his case for the afterlife as if he was addressing a court of law.
The resulting research from Victor and his wife, Wendy, take the reader over a large selection of subjects, including Near-Death & Out of Body Experiences, After Death Communications, Mental & Physical Mediumship, Remote Viewing, the paranormal, Past-Life Regression, Quantum Physics and many other areas of parapsychological interest.
This is a great book for people just entering into the field of spiritual thinking, as each chapter gives detailed thoughts and histories of many different topics. As such, it is a great source for building up a founding framework of ideas, acting as a perfect springboard for further research.

'The Afterlife is Real'
by Theresa Cheung.
This book is very much in the style of Bill & Judy Guggenheim's 1995 book, 'Hello From Heaven', using worldwide, personal accounts of After-Death Communication, based on two decades of research.
As with 'Hello From Heaven', the book is a mixture of describing peoples' experiences, mixed in with a little personal insight and commentary. Theresa Cheung also focuses more upon Near-Death Experiences and how these may hold important evidence for the continuation of life beyond physical death.
After a brief introduction, the seven chapters are arranged into different types of alleged communication from those who have passed over, including physical sightings, dreams and a fascinating chapter about telephone conversations with deceased loved ones who appear to simply pass on a message that they are fine and well.
As usual with this type of book, the evidential nature of the accounts tends to build up as time goes on - partly due to the types of cases written in the book, but also likely because it can be easy for people to scoff at one or two accounts such as these. Once these accounts reach the hundreds/thousands, it becomes far more difficult to find truly rational explanations.

'Voices from Paradise:
How the Dead Speak to Us'

Maybe not the catchiest title ever devised, but the content of this quite short book - covering 151 pages - is full of interest for people researching elements of life-after-death, spiritualism, mediumship and electronic voice phenomena.
In August, 1992, Judith Chisholm lost her eldest son, Paul, aged 36. His death was sudden and mysterious, which simply added to the usual confusion and bewilderment of bereavement.
Failing to find comfort from her own religion, Judith - along with friends and family of Paul - begin to receive unusual signs, along with sightings of him.
Spurred on to discover more, Judith and her son, Vic, begin a journey of discovery - exploring mediums, spiritualists and development circles, before finally opening new doors into the mysteries of electronic voice phenomena.
Written with her journalist/sceptical mind firmly in place, Judith's book is honestly expressed. She is not afraid to give true opinions on what she uncovers, even if it goes against validating evidence of her son's survival beyond physical death - an aspect of the book that I find particularly appealing. There's little 'fluffiness' about Judith, or her writing. If she goes to a medium and finds them less than accurate - or convincing - then she isn't afraid to mention it.
At the same time the reader is in no doubt that here is someone who wants to find the absolute truth regarding mediumship and E.V.P. Both elements are tested, with more technical information on the latter being included towards the end of the book, for anyone wishing to begin their own experiments.
Attention is also given towards careful explanation behind the history of E.V.P., going back to the time of early radio, but especially focusing attention upon the 'Grandfathers of E.V.P. - namely Friedrich Jurgenson and Dr. Konstantin Raudive. It's clear to see that Judith Chisholm has spent many hours of research into writing this book - which is easy to read and does not labour the point on any aspects.
For anyone new to spiritualism, mediumship or E.V.P., this book is a gem.

'Ghost Stations' - Bruce Barrymore Halfpenny
This is the first of a collection of ghostly accounts, written by Bruce Barrymore Halfpenny, a military historian.
The main focus of the book looks at reports of ghosts and ghostly activity at several R.A.F. air bases, mostly in Britain, with some in other parts of Europe.
The interesting aspect here appears to be that visible apparitions seem to have a definitive life-span, before changing to more audible or sensory experiences. Some of the accounts stem from the time of World War II, when the bases were at their operational height, or from shortly afterwards during 'National Service' in the UK.

A fascinating book following on from the work of EVP pioneers, such as Friedrich Jurgenson and Konstantin Raudive, and exploring the topic of electronic voice phenomena from a rational, scientific perspective.
The book is split into two main sections - firstly Alexander's personal exploration of EVP as a specialist in electronics and electronic communication systems, leading to discoveries that help to shed light on the source of EVPs, what EVPs are and - most importantly - what EVPs are not.
The second half of the book focuses upon Alexander's philosophies on what these discoveries could mean on a universal level.

'On the Edge of the Etheric' - Arthur Findlay
First published in 1931 by Arthur Findlay and reprinted many times, this book focuses upon upon a scientific approach towards a life beyond physical death.
A quick summary: in 1918, Arthur Findlay - a wealthy Scottish stockbroker and magistrate - is visiting his sick wife in hospital. A well-educated man, Findlay possesses a sceptical and analytical mind.
One evening, Findlay leaves his sleeping wife and wanders around unfamiliar streets. Finding a spiritualist church, Findlay decides to enter out of curiosity. Unconvinced by the meeting - and not being shy to state his opinions - Findlay lets his views be known to the church elders, basically dismissing what he has witnessed in the church as nonsense. Although a stranger to the church, one gentleman talks to Findlay and persuades him to attend another public meeting with a medium called John Sloane.
For Findlay, this forms the foundation of a lifelong exploration into spiritual science and the collection of evidence that life continues beyond physical death.

Essentially, these are personal experiences where a deceased person finds a way to communicate with someone on Earth.

'The Door Marked Summer' - Michael Bentine
'The Door Marked Summer' (1981) is one of several books written by Michael Bentine.
Michael was a comedian and writer - famous in Great Britain as one of the founding members of The Goons in the 1950's (forerunners and major inspiration for Monty Python).
This book is autobiographical and covers Michael's fascinating life - including several chapters devoted towards his own spiritual thoughts and covering the many different types of paranormal research carried out by his father in the early part of the 20th century; stemming from an experience he could not rationally explain and described to him by a spiritualist medium around the time of World War One.
The range of testing done by the Bentine family included mediumship, psychics, 'fortune-tellers', physical mediums and a wide range of others who claimed to work with various forms of divination and psychic methods. The rational and scientific thoroughness employed by the family helps to give a true insight of what they experienced, with some visiting psychics/intuitives making a lasting impression, while others didn't make it to the end of the hallway before being turned around and redirected back to the front door.
For anyone interested in spiritual philosophy, or the practical aspects of spiritual/paranormal research & experimentation, this book is a gem of information.
